-        to teach pupils to analyze, compare, identify the main idea of the material;
-        to develop intellectual and creative skills.
Equipment: pictures, cards, CDs.
Procedure
I. Greeting
T: Good morning everybody. I’m glad to see you. Everybody looks wonderful today. (Possible variants: pupils face each other in chain saying “You look great/perfect, wonderful, stylish, cool, excellent, fantastic etc. today”. – “Thank you. So do you.” The main idea is not to repeat the same compliments one by one.) I hope everybody is in a good mood today.
    We are going to discuss your school today, trying to find out your likes and dislikes of the process.
II. Warming-up
T: Read the poem about school and try to guess the missing words.
The school has… that open wide
And friendly… wait inside.
Hurry, hurry, let’s…
For soon the… will begin.
(Possible variants: rooms/windows/doors; teachers/classmates/fellows; come in/get in; lessons/fun/studying/learning).
T: Try and create some lines dealing with school rhyming as: need – read, school – rule, principal – principle.
Possible rhymes:
All my textbooks I do need,
Because I’m going to read.
Early morning walk to school,
It’s an important daily rule.
At school we’ve got a smart principal.
Discipline is his main principle.
III. The main part of the lesson
1.  Interactive activity “Aquarium”
T: Let’s make an aquarium. Pupils make 2 groups and get acquainted with the task: What does school mean to you? Make up your statements beginning with the words “A school is a place where…”  What do you like at school? (All answers are welcome) One group, will you sit in the center, another one -  you are forming a circle.
read the situation aloud;
discus it, using conversational formulas ;
make a common solution, you have 3 minutes.
– We become cleverer;
– We take part in different school activities;
– We have a lot of friends;
– We study interesting subjects;
– We learn new things.
What don’t you like at school? (All answers are welcome)
– We have no time for sports and hobby;
– We have to get up early in the morning every day even on Saturday;
– We are tired of doing homework;
– We depend on teachers’mood;
– We have to learn some boring and useless subjects;
– We have many tests;
– We worry about getting bad marks;
– Our school bags are too heavy;
– Sometimes school has nothing to do with real life.
 So, the time is up,  what is the best idea…?
T: Will you take your seats and I have a question to the class – Do you agree with this idea?
- Frankly speaking, I would better say that a school is a place where you are happy.
- As for me, a school is like climbing a mountain. When you dream that you are at the top of a mountain you may overcome all difficulties of studying.
- To my mind, a school is like walking through a dark forest. I don’t see and understand anything but I am sure that there will be a light at the end.
2. Pair work
T: You are the pupils of our school. What does it mean to be a pupil? (Teacher writes on the board: “Being a pupil means…”)
Will you work in pairs and write down 4 sentences? Then find the fifth line which will make the writing sound like a poem.
Example:
Being a student means going to school 5 days a week.
Being a student means having 5 lessons a day.
Being a student means studying different subjects.
Being a student means doing homework every day
Whether you like it or not.
T: And now ask and answer the question: “Is it good to be a pupil?”
P1: It is good to be a pupil because we meet our friends and teachers every day, get good marks, learn many new and interesting things, often go on excursions etc.
P2: It is bad to be a pupil because I need to get up early every day – I hate it; I don’t always get good marks, sometimes I quarrel with my classmates and teachers and my mood is bad. Etc.

TEXT
    My name is Makar. I am a pupil of the sixth form. I learn many interesting subjects at school. I want to tell you about our English lessons because English is my favourite subject.
    We have lessons English on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday. At these lessons we learn to read, write and speak English.
    Our teacher explain us new words and expressions and we write them down into our vocabularies. We read sentences with new words and word-combinations and translate them into our mother tongue.
    At the English lessons we also read and retell texts, describe pictures, ask and answer questions and make up dialogues. Sometimes we write dictations at the lessons. Many pupils of our class write English dictations very well. They get very good marks.
    At the English lessons we also learn to write compositions. We began to write English compositions last year. We write small stories about our friends and our parents. Our English lessons are very interesting. We like these lessons very much.
Post-reading tasks

Do they write down new words and word-combinations in their vocabularies?
Do they make up sentences with words and word-combinations?
Do they learn to ask and answer questions at the English lessons?
Do they read interesting stories? What else do they do at the English lessons?
Do they like these lessons?
T: And now let’s play. I will read you a sentence and you will tell that it happens to your friend. Don’t forget about the third person singular.

P2: Tastes differ.
6. Project work (group work)
T: I agree with you. Tastes differ. And now it is time to listen to your projects “My favourite style of music”. It was your hometask.
Group1
Let me introduce our group. We are fond of jazz. Jazz was created in the United States by black Americans. It is a mixture of many different kinds of music. It is a combination of the music of West America, the work songs the slaves sang, and religious music. Jazz bands were formed in the late 1800-s. Improvisation is an important part of jazz. Jazz became more and more popular. Today people all over the world play jazz. People who like jazz always remember American jazzman Louis Armstrong.
Group2
We want to tell you about classical music. I find classical music relaxing. This music has been living for centuries. It is heard in every corner of our land. Some people simply don’t understand classical music, but it has a deep intellectual appeal and it creates a special spiritual world for the listener. When I listen to the light classical music as to “Seasons” by Tchaikovsky, I enjoy this classical music. I think we must be taught not only to listen but to understand, which is more important. I like to play classical music. This music makes me feel like dreaming.
Group3
We are going to tell you about rock. It is a real music! As for me I prefer rock all the year round, because it can express all kinds of my mood. I can find a firm support in rock. Within this music I feel strength and stability. Rock music or rather rock’n’roll, appeared in the 1950-s. The first rock music is connected with the names of Elvis Presley, chuck Berry, The Beatles , The Rolling Stones and some others. The 70-s were the time of revolution in rock music. Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep told the world about the beginning of new era of hard rock. I’d say that, of course, tastes differ and everybody is fond of particular genre of music. But I’m mad about rock.
Group4
We are going to tell you about folk music. This music lives on for centuries. Every nation has its own national music and dance ensembles and choirs. The British are very fond of their folk music. They held special Folk Festivals, where the young can learn about their national culture and folk music. Ukraine has also its own national music, Ukrainian folk songs. I like to listen to these songs because it is interesting to learn about the past.
Group5
I love pop music. It’s unusual and exciting and it’s the way of sharing all our hopes and fears. I like to know more and more about popular talented groups and singers I like. I think that only talented people can claim to be singers. As for me I like new rhythms, I prefer pop music. Pop music unites teenagers all over the world and make us feel a part of global family. We can hear this music every day and everywhere. I think music is our life, it helps us to live, and it makes our mood.
7. Physical activities
T: Look at the screen. You can see different pictures here. One picture is extra picture. Listen to different kinds of music. What object does the played music associate with. So, you are in the world of music. Close your eyes, relax and listen to it very attentively.
P1: The first musical extract associates with a baby.
P2: The second musical extract associates with a fairy tale.
8. Reading (work in groups)
IVEvaluation
T: Now let’s sum everything up. You were superb at the lesson. Your marks.
V. Hometask
 T: Write an essay ”Music in my life”.
And I want to say: “ Remember, music is magic! It’s the source of inspiration. Let music always be with you as the universal language of the world”
